Making New Year’s Resolutions with Your Kids

Happy New Year! Christmas is officially over and now it’s time to say goodbye to the old year and hello to the new year. It is when we promise ourselves to do better than the year before. God gives us the same opportunity to say goodbye to our sinful ways and hello to the new life we can have in Him. Every day should be New Year’s Day for Christians because God has given us each new day as a chance to live for Him.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Sit down with your young ones and ask what each of you want to do better with this year and think about how these things will glorify God. Here are some examples: I am going to–

  • Spend less time in front of the TV and more time playing outside
  • Start obeying mom and dad the first time (instead of making them repeat their instructions)
  • Help my little brother/sister with homework when he/she needs it
  • Read one Bible story every day this year
  • Do one Bible activity or devotion every day this year (download them for free here!)

What new year’s resolutions did you make? Let us know in the comments! 🙂

  1. These are great goals to have.
I stopped making New Year’s resolutions, particularly those I don’t keep past February. But I try to set measurable goals I can keep during the year.
